Darlington Akogo

Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence at GUDRA

Darlington Akogo is a global leader in the field of AI. He is the Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence at GUDRA, minoHealth AI Labs, karaAgro AI, and Runmila AI Institute. Akogo is involved in AI and tech across several other platforms and industries.

He’s the Lead of the Topic Group on AI4Radiology under the United Nations International Telecommunication Union and the World Health Organization’s Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (FG-AI4H). At UN FG-AI4H, Akogo leads the development of global regulations and standards for AI in radiology.

He’s the co-chair of the Digital Health & AI Global Health Strategy Group, created by University of Oxford and 13 partners from around the world including minoHealth AI Labs. He’s also the chair of the Data WP, under the UKRI-funded Digital Diagnostics for Africa network being led by Imperial College London in partnership with minoHealth AI Labs and other organisations. He serves as the Lead (Ghana) for the Lacuna Fund project, Crop Disease & Pest Image Data, by Makerere University and KaraAgro AI, where he leads a team of 40 people across industry, academia and government towards the creation of large robust datasets for computer vision solutions towards early disease and pest detection. In addition to this work, Akogo is also a member of the MIT Tech Review Global Panel. He has spoken at numerous international conferences including NeurIPS, ​MIT’s Global Community ​BioSummit, African Union Africa Industrialization Week, EU: Africa The Post Crisis Journey, and the ACP Heads of States and Government Summit, amongst others. Akogo also writes reports and essays for ​Synapse Magazine and articles for MIT Tech Review Insights.
